We all know the Caon EOS C300 is a perfect professional Camcorder. However it doesn't work well with Avid Media Composer under Mac OS X, especially MC 5 ,MC 5.5 version. Below are two typical problems found in forums.
I have footage shot on the Canon EOS C300. i have downloaded the AMA plug in but am still unable to play any clip. It appears in the bin, but error message says unable to play. I have noticed other posts regarding this issue, but none seem to have been resolved. Any clues. I am running MC 5.0.4.3. I know the AMA MXF plug in should be bundled with the editing version, but am at a loss to understand why I am having problems.
I am unable to link to Canon C300 files with a Mac MC 5.5.3 - I have downloaded both the MXF plugin version (tried both 1.7.2 & 1.0) and the Canon XF plugin for AMA 1.0.5. Each time I go to link to AMA volum, I get the error "Unable to link..." Any suggestions? I've successfully linked to all types of other files via AMA
From Googling, you may find many other questions about Canon C300 MXF footages to Mac MC importing/editing. The main reason is that C300 MXF video uses XF codec, which is a not good editing format. As far as I now almost Video Editing Softwares don't surpport the native MXF format, and we have to use a third party plugin. In general, we can use Canon XF AMA Plugin to help us transcode MXF to DNxHD natvie format for smoothly editing with MC. However it doesn't work well under Mac OS X. So, many Mac users want to use an easy way to directly import C300 MXF to MC. In the post, I advice you to firstly use a Mac MXF Converter to convert MXF to Avid's native format DNxHD, and then copy the file to MC 5, MC 5.5 for further editing.

First, please download and install a top Mac MXF to Avid MC convert tool. You can go to google and download the best one.
Tips:
1) The downloaded MXF converter should better has the native Avid Media Composer Built-in Profile to avoid the incompatible codec error.
2) To keep the original video quality, you can freely set the best video and audio settings as you want with the convert tool.
