Problems of editing Canon 5D Mark IIII with FCP
I am trying to edit the HD video from my Canon 5D Mark IIII and when I hit playback on FCP the video does not play. The application does not give an error or anything and I believe this has to do with the fact that the camera records in H.264 MPEG 4 format in 1080P at 30 fps. If anyone could provide any insight on how to edit the video from this camera using FCP?
The Canon 5D Mark III footage is recorded at 29.97 frames-per-second using MPEG-4/H.264 Codec. The H.264/MPEG-4 is high compressed and doesn't work with FCP. You will need to transcode the footage to FCP best editing format.
Apple Prores 422 is a post-production format designed for high quality and high performance Final Cut Pro real-time editing. It produces video that is indistinguishable from uncompressed HD video and needs less storage space than uncompressed SD video.
The Apple Prores 422 codecs also features for great flexibility and performance. It requires no extra hardware for encoding and decoding. In addition, the codecs have been designed to take advantage of multicore processors. Which means when the system spends less time decoding each frame, it has time for more real-time effects processing.
Feel free to download this Prores 422 Converter to transcode Canon 5D Mark III to Apple Prores 422 format and then import and edit with FCP in real-time effects.
